Rex Jim Lawson popularly known as Cardinal Rex, was a highlife music legend of Kalabari origin, in Rivers state. He was one of the finest highlife music maestro ever lived, popularly known in the 1960s in Africa when he dominated the continent’s highlife scene with likes of “So Ala Teme”, “Love Me Adure” and “Jolly Papa”.
Rex Lawson began his musical career in Port Harcourt as a band boy for Lord Eddyson’s Starlight Melody Orchestra. He later played with Sammy Obot, Bobby Benson, Victor Olaiya, Chris Ajilo, and many other Ghanaian and Nigerian musicians before forming his own Majors Band which was fondly called The Rivers Men.
Best of Rex Lawson greatest hits include “So ala teme”, “Love Me Adure”, “Time Na Money“, “Yellow Sisi”, and “Jolly Papa”.
