Nze Nelson Ejinduaka Ezike Nnadozie, popularly known as Show Promoter was one of the Igbo highlife musicians who, has not been celebrated enough. He is from Umunankwo Amannachi Ebenator in the old Orlu local government area of Imo State.
Ezike Nnadozie, as he was popularly called was exceptional when it comes to Akụkọ n’egwu music genre. One special thing about his Akụkọ n’egwu is that they are based on true stories. When you listen to some of his music, like “Nwanyị Port Part 2,” you will hear how “Onye ogbu ịsị” killed Nwanyi Port, her 3-year-old son, and her newborn baby.
But in this song Onye Ma Echi, Show Promoter sings about the uncertainty of tomorrow. “Onye ma echi” is an Igbo phrase that translates to “Who knows tomorrow?” in English. It encapsulates a philosophical reflection on the uncertainty and unpredictability of the future. This expression emphasizes the transient nature of life and serves as a reminder to live with humility, kindness, and mindfulness, as no one can be certain of what tomorrow holds.
In traditional Igbo society, this phrase is often used to caution against arrogance or presumptive actions. It teaches patience and reliance on a higher power, reflecting the belief that while humans can plan, only God has ultimate control over what lies ahead. This aligns with the proverb, “Man proposes, but God disposes,” highlighting the divine role in determining outcomes.
